About

Health informatics is the interdisciplinary study of design, development, and adoption of IT-based innovations in healthcare services, delivery, management, and planning. In 2009, the HITECH Act, a new federal law, was issued that requires health care providers to maintain patient records in electronic form and to be sure records are kept on a secure network. As a result, new jobs are emerging in health informatics, and educational programs have been designed for this profession.
